The World according to the U.S.A.... :)

This did make me chuckle.

I know full well that all of my American friends would laugh at this. It ain't baiting or trolling, just a bit of fun. We all know it's not true of our great friends over the pond who use this site.

More places shown on that map than most Americans are aware of but they are probably wondering where the British Isles have gone

Threewheelbonnie 16 Oct 2011 08:46

The old 51st state is too small to get on the map at that scale, it's only an air base plus the Queens house and a bit of room for that bloke they always ask you if you know from Scotlandcestershire.

An alternative to the above.....

Linzi 16 Oct 2011 14:52

Similarly but achingly funnier is "Team America, World Police", a DVD by the same guys who brought us South Park. Using puppets, they take the mickey from International Rescue as well as the USA's war on terror policy. Absolute inspired brilliance I think. Highly recommended. Lindsay.

gatogato 20 Oct 2011 00:39

There is definitely some truth to the stereotype. I think a lot of the ignorance comes from Republican evangelicals, and the rest is "we are the best syndrome."

It is completely mind boggling to me how the Republican party has tricked such a large number of $20-30k wage earners into thinking they care about them. lol

Some how they have tricked them into thinking that what is good for millionaires is also good for minimum wage earners! lol

I love old maps.

Think how different the last 150 years might have been with Californian gold and Texan oil going South instead of North East.

My Great Uncle has a UK road atlas from about 1935. We've tried following bits of it by GPS (easier) and by non-electronic methods (almost impossible once the planners have gone to work on the signs: WTH do they signpost things like the LOCAL leisure centre but not the next town??? doh) which makes for some interesting little rides.

Andy

*Touring Ted* 27 Oct 2011 08:37

Yeah.. I can't really blame all those Mexicans going north and RE-CLAIMING what was taken by force.

As a Brit, I can't really take the moral high ground when it comes to Colonisation, but at least we gave it all back... :innocent:

Threewheelbonnie 27 Oct 2011 12:23

Yep, we introduced beer drinkers the Australian climate doh:rofl:

Andy

estebangc 27 Oct 2011 16:31

We all have a history...

I prefered the old version in which the newers are based on: "The World according to Ronald Reagan"

http://pacopedia.files.wordpress.com...ld-reagan2.jpg

It was pretty funny in the context of the Cold War, when you were one one side or the other or... were a poor 3rd world country where the battle was taking place (reminder: we are happy to have the US was protecting all us from the evil USSR, buying their bonds, true). The poster was also nicer because it read "Reagan's vision" (hey, he wanted all reports written in just 1 page, so pretty simplistic approaches), but not the "Americans" as a whole.

We all have our own heritage from our good and actions in the past (aka colonialism and the like), like South Americans in Spain, Pakistanis and Indians in the UK, Algerians in France... and Mexicans in the US. Just like that, get the most of it, blame no one. bier (I'm not exactly a fan of the US foreign policy, but... do any of us imagine a mulatto primer minister in the UK or a gypsy in Spain? Should take that into account as well when it comes to the American people...)

Cricket Explained

Hi , fine wine tonight... on the north coast of Spain. I miss Buenos Aires....As an American - North American that is, I am always ready to expand my understanding of other lands and cultures of the world. As a kid I had a set of books entitled Lands and Peoples that really helped me understand the world maps previously posted on this thread. Because I had dreadful study habits my Dad made me read from the Lands and Peoples Books throughout jr high school career.

Sports played by the peoples of the world always intrigued me. One burning question: (How is Cricket played? ) has gone unanswered for years was finally answered earlier today by finding this simple video on YouTube.

So if any of you reading here have ever wondered about Cricket and how it is played....here you will find the answer.

Oh man, thanks for that info, but you went way toooooo far.

As I Spaniard, I admit the many mistakes we made in the past colonial times, the forced conversion ("kiss the cross or die"), etc... but at least we did not brainwash them to hit a ball with a stick in an ununderstandable game! :( I'd rather go to the Inquisition Tribunal!:hang:

No kidding, I will watch it with interest, I've tried to understand it and got no clue why they suddenly get happy for no apparent reason!

PS: Before anyone tries, since long ago it is forbidden to throw goats from the bell tower in all Spain...

xfiltrate 30 Oct 2011 01:33

Amigo very good points indeed

Obvio mi amigo...! Yes estebangc, , until I watched the video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNdCn...eature=related

I too, did not understand why cricket players were exhibiting sudden bursts of happiness characterized by laughter and back slapping. The video is very informative. I laughed a lot.

And, your other point about the brainwashing required to have someone enjoy playing a ununderstandable game is very well taken. I like the word ununderstandable and hope you don't mind if I use it frequently.

And, thanks for the tip about not throwing goats from the bell towers of Spain because it has been declared illegal by the Spanish authorities. It is always good to keep up and abide by the law, especially Spanish law.

No offense to any Brits who may be reading here as, at the moment, I too am on your side of the pond.

Salud mi amigo where are you in Spain?

Now... some more maps...
which is proofing that "some" of the US-Americans are well aware about the geography in the world...
about how they would like to change the world, so it will match there view...
like changing the world layout of Disneyland for easier access...
if needed.. by force too...

yeah I can hear them chiselling in the underground... :helpsmilie:

so... if any one of you planing further trips across the east... you may have to hurry...
you may suddenly will find your GPS waypoints gone out of place, are wrong and/or changed regarding the border posts...
and visa regulation...

just a add-on to the view of how the evil-doer-theme-park boundaries may get stretched like elastic cords...
will give you a lot more fun in the next upcoming decades... :eek3: doh

(yeah.. don't you worry... for sure... there will be a easy, permanent... discounted VISA entry fee's for US passport holders anyway, that's the idea... )

Perfectly Ununderstandable

Thanks Spooky, is there, perhaps a YouTube video that might

explain your map? Or, could you enlighten me? It all seems very

reasonable but I find it philosophically

ununderstandable.

not listening in gibberish ? ;)

ahh well.. we are here at the HU-bar... bier, nothing that seriously in the end... part of the beer and fun...
yeah don't loose your common sense...:innocent:

but... to get to your question or :confused1:
there is no youtube infos... found this images a while back...
but this maps are real, published by accident or got lost out of a official planing stage folder.. of a thinktank rushing along the corridors...
in the run-up for the option to target the Iran.... :nono:
don't know if the plan is dropped or just delayed, or just went back in to the bottom of the desk-draw... but the maps appeared in the under grow...
which was a bit of a :rain::cursing::9898: embarrassing for some officials...
basically the map or it's elastic boundaries, is a concept of splitting the different ethnics and weak nations apart and away from the remaining oil bearing areas...
which, who wonders will end up in favour of the big player namely the US of cause...
and because if there are many small weak nations in the region, the more the big player is able to control and dictate the place... actually way onward that region as well.

the info is about how to deal with the "oil-peak" of the region and from 2015 onwards world wide...
you don't need to guess who will benefit and lose from the result of this concept it in the end.... :arabia: :red_indian: :chinese: :crying: :surrender: or rather them :sneaky2: :alien: :tank: :gunsmilie: :nuke:

well, well... as I say... this is the HU-bar... where we like to chat, have a few beer bier:rofl:

Viejo, you can use it and even abuse it! As you know the Spanish word is exactly the same (well, almost, "incomprensible"), but this sounded more cacophonic, part of the joke. (Me, no native "espiker", don't have to tell it. Come from Seville (never really threw goats there :innocent:) but live abroad; enjoy your time in Spain).

Please, no offence intended at all, obviously it's just joking: I have had British friends playing cricket and enjoyed to see them having so much fun :thumbup1:... while I was soooo puzzled doh. In India I was answered once "cricket is much better understood if you know the history of the game"; at that point I thought "is he mocking me or just no chance then?". I think we all feel both interested/intrigued and stupid because you don't get a clue. Fortunately, this video clarifies completely the rules, being it so easy, how come idiot me I could not find it "out" (or was it "in"?). Strongly recommend it.

Esteban

PS: The new maps... I also got the possible changes, but maybe I did not smoke the right grass to unununderstand it (don't smoke indeed). No resentment involved, I assume.

spooky map

To the cousins on the old side of the sea, please be careful of throwing stones.Let's consider that maybe the way the map is now could stand some changes. Yugoslavia, the combination of India/Pakistan, the Sudan/South Sudan/Dafar mess, Ireland North and Ireland South, Palestine/Jordan, need I go on? I remember when red on the map was used for only for the British Empire. Eric

ohh yes stirring shit among clan's producing the right background for exactly what I'm talking about.... to be able to realise that desired change over night..
keep them busy fighting and earn big $$$ with the misery in the 1st place...
than call it humanity action against the evil who is not that cooperative... call the UN for embargo, a resolution for action and roll in...
just the old boring game and story again... the casino rolls on...

see... we got a tale over here in Germany which is saying "wenn zwei sich streiten, freut sich der dritte"
which is translated like "if two have a dispute, the third is the laughing one"
so.. taking this in to account... we will get a classic "Kindergarten" clash...
resulting in the 2nd "spooky map" labelled AFTER (the world according the US)

The bloke who specified the material the XT600E exhaust is made of surely has it coming?

Who blamed Japan???

Not I .... I actually grew up in Tokyo...

I am convinced there is something to the

post referring to the exhaust. Meanwhile, while not

a rapper, I did find a rap video that does put the blame

exactly where it belongs. So Put on your stereo head phones

kick back and enjoy.

"-----PS: Before anyone tries, since long ago it is forbidden to throw goats from the bell tower in all Spain----"

Darn ,I used to enjoy a bit of goat throwing !
[Maybe we'll have to use politicians instead .][But without a tarp to catch them ]

On the subject of goats :
Two guys are walking through the woods and come across this big deep hole. "Wow...that looks deep." "Sure does... toss a few pebbles in there and see how deep it is." They pick up a few pebbles and throw them in and wait... no noise
"Jeeez. That is REALLY deep... here.. throw one of these great big rocks down there. Those should make a noise." They pick up a couple football-sized rocks and toss them into the hole and wait... and wait. Nothing.
They look at each other in amazement. One gets a determined look on his face and says, "Hey...over here in the weeds, there's a railroad tie. Help me carry it over here. When we toss THAT sucker in, it's GOTTA make some noise."
The two drag the heavy tie over to the hole and heave it in. Not a sound comes from the hole.
Suddenly, out of the nearby woods, a goat appears, running like the wind. It rushes toward the two men, then right past them, running as fast as it's legs will carry it. Suddenly it leaps in the air and into the hole. The two men are astonished with what they've just seen... Then, out of the woods comes a farmer who spots the men and ambles over. "Hey... you two guys seen my goat out here?" "You bet we did! Craziest thing I ever seen! It came running like crazy and just jumped into this hole!" "Nah", says the farmer, "That couldn't have been MY goat. My goat was chained to a railroad tie."

Yepper it's all in good fun, mind ya the USA is such a big target it's mighty darned difficult to take a shot at it and miss!
