Google earth on Mac Air not working

Hi

Can anyone help?

Google earth won't work on my Mac Air. I can install the programme and can open Google earth but when it gets to the point in the picture I have included it just freezes. I then have to force quit. This first happened in January this year when I was on my trip and just got round to looking at it again.
I have used google search but cant find anything to relate to my situation.

As I am pretty new to Macs I don't really know where to start.
Thought about doing a reinstall of the whole Mac but don't even know how to do that

I have uninstalled Google Earth used CCleaner and cleaned all the cache etc but it still doesn't work after a reinstall

Thanks
Wayne

I'm a Mac guy ... but NOT a computer or IT guy (that's why I own a Mac!). BUT ... seems to me
with at least some versions of Google Earth ... you have to PAY up and subscribe to get it. No? Yes? Maybe?

This is what my Mac expert buddy told me ... but was several years ago. He could get it and I could not ... he said you have to subscribe to it if you want to see the roof on your own house!

Some nerds will figure this out and let you know I'm sure. Maybe there is a "free" version, but perhaps also a more comprehensive subscriber only version?

It did work fine and then one day just decided to freeze and not go any further than the picture. I ain't got a clue why?

Even the Google Earth Pro version is free nowadays.

Are you currently outside the UK? There's a few countries that block Google Earth on privacy grounds.

I don't know what you want to do but nowadays I rarely use Google Earth as the satellite view from Google maps is sufficient for my needs.

I have a couple of Macbook Airs plus an iMac and Google Earth runs on them just fine. There is *absolutely* no reason to reinstall the Mac OS, the operating system is constructed totally differently from Windows. Files are not generally scattered all over the disc by the installation program and an uninstall is just a case of navigating to the applications folder and deleting 'Google Earth.app'.

You could try downloading and installing the Pro version to see whether there's any difference, see https://www.google.com/earth/explore...s/desktop.html

Let us know how you get on.

Tried the Pro version and it did the same thing at the same point

Tim
I was using it in Thailand it was fine, went to Laos, worked for a few days then went the way it is now, I thought it was maybe because I was in Laos but when I got back to the UK it still would not work
The reason I was using it was because you can view route etc direct from Basecamp
Snap shot using Pro

It looks like you may have a corrupted myplaces.kml file. This isn't removed when you deinstall/reinstall Google Earth.

Go to Finder
Hold down the alt/option key and keep holding it (this displays hidden files)
Click on 'go' in menu bar, then click on 'library'
(Now let go of alt/option key)
In finder open the 'application support' folder, then the 'google earth' folder

You now should see myplaces.kml and a backup file
Move these somewhere else, then restart Google Earth
