Being a Boring British Wanker (at least twice a day...good for the constitution, dear boy), and having spent the summer trolling around Europe i've developed a healthy new-found respect for this beautiful island and (whisper it) the people here - more exploration required. Shocking, eh!
Oh, and as long as this Nanny-state has great Hooters and a penchant for leather then all the better!

Just a side note the UK aint all that bad I certainly dont wish that your parents stay cold. My farther in law just died and I think he was well looked after in his final year. Now if my taxes paid a small part in that it can only be a good thing.

Put simply, comments like your first post just look like a troll or a chip on the shoulder, rather than trying to promote a discussion of reasoned arguements, if that is indeed what you hoped to do.

If all that still labels me as "boring", so be it... but don't now be surprised if you're not taken seriously...
Yep still boring!

and if all else fails Ive still got my bike (even if theres hardly anywhere to ride over here !)

sorry forgot this is a response to the crack smoking original, but then it would be a shame to stereotype a nation.

So if you say Britain is full of boring wankers you must be smoking crack eh!
interesting theory!!

Jesus man, in this country the frickin govt. has Nothing to do with heating your house or apt. You are on your own round here mate.

Hey, since you deplore the Nanny State, what are you waiting for? Why don't you do it the American way and HIRE a skilled tradesman to FIX the heating problem? NOW! :confused1: Or go home and fix it yourself. Self reliance? Isn't that what the Neo-Cons preach?

I feel for your parents and hope YOU, or someone comes to their aid soon.
It's 90f here today .... can't imagine cold quite yet.
I did indeed come to their assistance, but they are convinced that after a lifetime of paying taxes and when the state actually said that they would do the work, they,d rather hold on and not waste money. The trouble being is that the state hires the skilled workmen to do the job, then send their guy round to check the work done,he says the jobs so poorly done that it,s unsafe and 9 months later they still ain,t been back to fix it.
So there you go,the worst of both worlds.Yours and the Brits

Despisement of a nation and it's peoples is ugly, I thought that was the whole reason for this website; to be open minded, travel and understand the world we live in, not to judge others and condemn governments, we can leave that to the politicians and warmongers of this world.

I'm guessing if your parents expect the state to fix their heating and have indeed experienced this that they must be in some form of social housing (after all no home owning individual would expect the govt to send a bloke round) In which case I think maybe they've not done badly out of the taxes they've been paying, after all ir's given them heavily subsidised housing.

Mind you, what do I know I moved to France 10 years ago, but that was mainly because I fancied someone over here.

Oh, and if your masturbation is boring, you're doing it wrong.

Poor Albert. Travelled all that way to get away from 'boring English wankers' and ends up propping up a foreign bar, complaining about home and putting the world to rights. Rumour has it he tried Spain, but couldn't get a word in.

I'm guessing he had to buy his own bar because it's the only place left that lets him in.

This is the most intelligent and thought provoking thread I have ever seen on the HUBB. No really; it's even better than the "Should I carry a handgun on my holiday to Tijuana?" thread...

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
