Tool kit & spares for a DL650 V strom
Hello all.
I am planning a 4 month trip for next year on my K7 Strom. My current tool kit allows me to service the bike & get the wheels off while on the road & is centred around the Motion Pro trail tool.
Any advice on additional tools or spares that are a 'must have'?

All of the above + ducktape !
Obviously puncture kit/pump
Make sure the seals on the callipers are good nick or just get them renewed before. I found my "dust seals" were in very bad condition and half hanging out!
If you are using the oem colour coded panniers more ducktape. Mine have a habbit of opening up when I hit a bump. Or a luggage strap to hold them closed. ( I would not use them on a big trip- they are in my opinion Rubbish! )
I guess a lot depends on where you will be and the ease of access to parts etc. But simple things like cables and a means of plugging cooling leaks would be high up my list. For the vstrom I may take a gear shift lever as I feel it is very "light weight" and might take a fatal hit in a simple drop situation.......not that I do that of course
I will be interested to see this tread develop also.

Ask yourself what you could do
What regular services can you perform?
What parts fail regularly that you can service.. may be with some help?
Look at
oil and filter replacement
Valve adjustment
Tyre punctures
Tyre replacement
Brake pad replacement
spark plug replacement
Seals - fork, countershaft
Rear shock replacement

The main ones I took with me were the following
Oil filters- I took quite a few, I replace the filter every oil change.
Low pressure fuel filter, called a Strainer. After a lot of bad fuel this gets clogged and the bike starves and starts to act like a kangaroo. Take a few, small and cheap
Front fork seals, take a spare set, small and cheap
If you cannot plan a route that takes you near a good spare parts shop then carry a spare air filter, OEM only, not a wet one. Remove packing and wrap in cling film, it is still a pain to keep it un damaged
I had my gear shift lever snapped in a crash, but the OEM spark plug spanner can be cable tied and silver taped to the lever to keep you going
I took a spare clutch and brake lever but even though I had many drops and offs, I never broke one in 12 months. I was using the OEM plastic hand guards and highly recommend them
Get the sintered brake pads, the front should last at least 50k but take a spare set of rears
That's all I can think of ATM

Thanks for the comments.
I have a mini compressor & mushroom type repair kit for punctures & was planning to take a tube to fit the front as an emergency repair.
With my current tool kit I can replace pads, spark plugs & the oil.
I am planning to replace cables, pads & spark plugs a month or two before leaving & will have my shocks serviced too.
I have no experience with removing the tyres, what length tyre levers are best? Are the 'bead breaker' tyre levers any good?
Keep the suggestions coming please.

There's a chap called The Twins on either ADV or Stromtrooper - forget which, who basically collected all the tools he ever used over 2 years with a strom before posting. Try googling it - I had very little time to prepare for my trip so bought every single thing he suggested, and so far 10k miles into my trip I've used almost everything at least once and it all fits under the seat along with the compressor and mushroom kit.
