Zimbabwe
Hello,
we are planing to travel with our motobike from Namibia to Zimbabwe at Kasane boarder. Does anyone know the actual Situation at this boarder and general in the Country? Are there any known Problems for traveling through the Country to south africa?

Hi Peter,

Can you get from Namibia to Zimbabwe there? I thought you had to go via Botswana at ngoma first?
Or via Zambia at katima mulilo as an alternative?

The border Botswana to Zimbabwe is easy, just make sure you have all your lights working, including the number plate and any stickers a motorbike needs (check the AA website for South Africa).

Some cars are asked for a police clearance document, particularly the SA registered ones. I don't know how that is for bikes. We were only asked for that in Zambia, but showed our carnet instead.


There are lots of checks throughout Zimbabwe, particularly on the main roads, but the police a friendly and waved us through more than half the time.

Don't go over the speed limit, there are too many traps to catch you and you end up spending more time on paperwork and payment than you gain from the faster km/h.
If you get any fines for anything, keep them and show them if you get stopped again and say you've already paid for that offence. Obviously doesn't work for speeding though.

thank you for your quick answer. I only take a look to the map. But i think you are right. we have to go at first to Botswana and then to Zimbabwe.
we are not south africans. we are coming from germany and sent our bike with the ship to valvisbay. we have a garnet for our bike, so i don't know what you mean with the stickers and police clearance document? i assume this is for people from south africa? or do you mean with stickers an insurance for our bike?

Stickers are compulsory for all CARS, wherever they come from. That's the D sticker on the back (mit the European one on your number plate) plus red and white reflective stickers back and front on the bumpers.
Reflective vest, fire extinguisher and such stuff.
As we came by car, I can't help regarding what you need of those things for a motorbike, sorry.
If you have. Carnet you'll be fine if they ask for the police clearance thing. You get a TIP rather than actually use the carnet though.

the road block aren't actually as bad as they use to be as the cops have been instructed to leave tourists alone. the country is beautiful with great people. but the roads can be narrow so be careful of trucks driving over the lines in the middle of the road. if you get a chance head up to the eastern highlands, Nyanga area. it's beautiful riding country. You won't need a police clearance just your registration papers (I presume the bike is in your name). Cars need triangles and vests and fire extinguishers not sure about bikes. I didn't have it and was never asked I got asked a lot in a car though. Oh and what out for elephants, bufs, lions etc. on the kasane VF road especially at night.
