Tyres in Kinshasa

Has anyone managed to find decent motorcycle tyres (21 front & 18 rear) in Kinshasa before?

If so, I would appreciate if you could post any details.

Tyres in Kinshasa

Can't say I know where to get tyres there, but there are a few
options to look at. The big UN compound might be worth an ask,
even better if your black and poor. They don't like helping wealthy
white people. There was/is a Sth. African Airforce precence there
also, if you talk to one of these guys if you see them they might be able to help you out. Or there is always the DHL/FedEx option, expensive and time
consuming, I'm sure one of the bike shops in sth africa or namibia would
assist you.
Novel Ford (Yamaha Dealer in Windhoek) was good to us whe we were
there, try them who knows, they may know of some one heading up
your way.
Hope this helps you out.

Grant,

I heard you guys had changed plans - you could try the Protestant Mission, which is about 2kms from the port. They have some rooms and camping space, although they were full on Sunday with a conference.

GPS is S 4.18.213' E 15.17.941'

To answer my own question re:tyres - there is a Yamaha dealer in town. It is possible to get Bridgestone Trail Wings 21 fronts, but their selection of 18 rears is not as good. They do also have a few 17 inch rears available.

GPS is S 4.18.276' E 15.18.519'

Duck - I am still waiting on that you owe me!

cheers

Hi Grant, heard you where on route to Brazza but didn’t fancy the Dolisie route ya BIG girls blouse! (hehehe), you have enough diggers in the back!! (was a great route!). I’m 70km outside Windhoek and should be on time for meeting the bird J’burg. Shoulders are still a little sore from carrying Matt down through, hahahahaa! (hopefully catch you and Andy up down here)

Matt – about this on contention, are you still up for opening the question the folks on the HUBB???? (good to hear you doing well in Kinshasa dude, landed on your feet!)

Duck,

Still in Kinshasa, waiting on a new head gasket arriving via DHL. Enjoying the hammock view over the river! Kinshasa is a really interesting city!

Given that two independent parties have already verified the source of our bet (thus making it 3-2 overall), I feel your attempts to welsh on paying out for my are undignified! I therefore await a cold upon my arrival in South Africa!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
