I sold a car in Mali in 2006. The sale itself was straightforward (albeit it with a lot of haggling). We didn't even need to advertise it - people were asking about the car as soon as we parked up at our hotel.
It's technically illegal to sell a vehicle in Mali without paying import duty and we got caught at the airport. There was a vehicle entry and exit stamp for Mauritania so the customs guy worked out what we'd done. My French evapoarted at that point and after ten minutes of "ou est la voiture?" he got bored and let us go.
Afterwards, we found out there is a customs form available for people temporarily leaving vehicles in the country. I'm sure a customs guy can be persuaded to stamp the form for the usual consideration....
I agree with the above posting - Mercedes 190D is the kit to have, preferably LHD. A friend had an accident-damaged RHD 190D and still got 1600 Euros for it.
