Good News: Gabon Visas at the Border of Cameroon

So, long story short. All of those who are waiting a week (or planning on it) in Yaounde for your visas for Gabon... there is no need. After hearing from a Dutch couple that the Congolese embassy and the Gabonese embassy said it might be possible to get our visas at the border for Gabon, we tried. The embassy in Yaounde was the silliest place I've ever been and I was planning on going through Congo just to avoid it.

However, at the border to Gabon, we got our visas and it wasn't a challenge, nor was there even a question that what we were doing was strange. Also, it was only 40,000 rather than the 50,000 they charge at the embassy in Yaounde.

I wrote a detailed article about what went down and how easy it was if you want to read more info: Brendan's Adventures » Getting a Visa for Gabon at the Border with Cameroon

Happy travels

Fantastic effort mate!

What passport do you travel on?

Anybody following through that speaks good French could perhaps clarify if this applies to all passports - or just a select few countries like US/Canada and EU? Kiwi and Oz? SA?

I'm on a Canadian passport. The dutch couple was on an EU passport, and I'm sure that there wouldn't be an issue for anyone from a developed country as long as they said they were a tourist. There's no words for how easy it was...

That is good news. Brendanvanson, you also mentioned that the Congolese ( Brazzaville ) visa might also be issued at the border. Have you or anybody else managed to get it and how hard was it ? Cheers, L.

We tried getting Gabon visa in Cameroon earlier this year. Tried two days and the embassy people were not the nicest.. So we went through Congo without problems.
I would be very surprised if they issue visas on a borders..

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
