Cool Current Safety Motorcycling through Egypt / Alternative routes to Europe

My partner and I have just completed riding on 2 HP2's South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda, to Kampala in Uganda. 5250km in 10days, the 1st leg of our trip which will hopefully end in Brasil. The bikes are currently parked in Kampala and the second leg of our trip is planned for December to head to Europe. The plan was to ride through Egypt but we met travellers on route who had suggested that Egypt is currently not the safest and recommended the Port Sudan to Saudi (transit visa) route. With my partner being female this isn't an option. Does anyone have current info on the safety status of Egypt? Border & road info etc. seems to be abundant on the forum but has anyone travelled this route recently? Also does anyone have current info on the Damietta / Iskenderun ferry or alternative so airfreight from say Khartoum to Amman. Any advise would be welcome.

Many Thanks

Paul

Hi. Lookup "4-wheelnomads" homepage. There are no problems going through Egypt and northern Sudan. Happy wheels!

Thanks guys 4-wheel-nomads is really helpful.
Not sure that we will get to greece this leg. We probably need to look for somewhere to store the bikes in Ethiopia. Any ideas?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
