Carnet for West Africa bike shipping?

Organising a motorbike trip down West Africa, but one stipulation from the family and loved ones is not to go through Mauritania , which obviously means we can't drive straight there from europe.
So, we were thinking of shipping straight to Senegal. We've heard conflicting reports about whether this is possible without a carnet de passage.
Anyone have any knowledge on this?
Cheers

Mauritania is the least of your concerns. We just rode through Mauritania last week and it was totally fine. Checkpoints yes, but they are all really friendly and no problems at all. Just have a preprinted Fiche and it's a breeze. Took us 2 days of riding and the desert was beautiful.

No need for a Carnet so far in any of the countries we have passed through. We are posting as we go on "Ireland to Sth Africa on KTM 690s" thread.

Have fun!!!

Are you from UK? If so we could easily get the bikes into Gambia.

Hey man. No stress at all. We were asking all the same questions a few months ago.

Below is a link to the fiche template we found. It might even be from HUBB but duplicate it and use it as you need. Makes life a lot easier.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
