travel insurance's driving me nuts! hints for a EU citizen?

hello hubbers!!! i know the subject has been covered many times before in this forum, but an extensive search has taken me no closer to finding a solution to my problem.
We're 2 italian citizens/residents and we'll be leaving towards the end of septmber on a trip trough Morocco, RIM and Senegal along the atlantic route riding 2-up on a ktm 1190 advR. Ive been looking around for a travel insurance policy that will cover our trip but have found absolutely nothing so far. Basically, Italian insurance companies will only cover for those countries againts which the ministry of foreign affairs has issued no safety warnings. The problem is that these guys seem to think that the only place which is safe to travel is the living room of your home in italy, provided that you live outside Naples . They have issued safety warnings even for Senegal!!! Goes without saying that Mauritania is way off!!!
have looked to companies from other EU countries, mainly UK (is it still EU?) but the only one i've found which covers motorcycling is worldnomads.com. I'm somehwhat reluctant to go with them since i've read pretty nasty stuff about them, and on top of that they quoted me an outrageous 486 Euros for 2 monhts!!!
Do you guys have any solid info on other insurance companies which will cater for european motorcyclists?!? PLEASE IM GOING NUTZ!!!!

Hi,

in Germany we have the "ADAC" (ACI in Italy?). They have e relatively cheap health insurance (~500-600€ 12 Month - al least for me) valid "in the whole world". Maybe your ACI? has something similar. I don't know if the german ADAC would insure italians. Here the link to the german ADAC-page (in german).

Good luck.

damn martin, you the man!!! i had no idea that ACI provided that kind of service, but indeed they do and it's dirt cheap too!! 75 euros for one year. They dont really work like a regular travel insurance as they dont pay for medical expenses but only reimburse you for what you spent, but they do provide med-evac and rimpatriation in case of serious injuries as well as insurance on luggage. I guess that will work for me. THANKS BRO!!!!!

PS. you wouldnt be the German Martin who, back in 2007,was solo-driving to Senegal and whom i've met at the source bleu in er-rachidia and again in Nouakchott?!?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
