Health care coverage in Europe?
Everyone seems to recommend MedJet Assist for there medical evacuation policy. I was looking at Multi-National Underwriters ( http://www.mnui.com/index.asp) and wondering what everyones experience was with this company.
It seems like MNUI covers things beyond just the evacuation. Am I mistaken thinking that MedJet just covers the evacuation. What I am interested in is some coverage for becoming ill but, not requiring evacuation while in Europe.
I will be in Western Europe primarily so, I am cocerned that if I show up at a local doctor for health care services, the bill would be excessive for routine services (normal illnesses and injuries from a backpacker). I have had Camphlobacter Jujuni (sp?) twice in Europe and would prefer just to be treated and released in Europe if it isn't cost prohibitive. If I twist an ankle or knee, I want some pain medication and the appropriate splint so I can recover at a Hostel or Hotel until I'm ready to continue my trip.
If it makes any difference, I am a middle aged man in reasonably good health residing in the USA. I travel alone for the most part until I make friends with other travelers in Europe. I use Eurail passes heavily too!
And Thanks for your help!
