1 year travel insurance for USA/Canada/S Amrica?

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone can help? I am getting a little confused….I have been searching for travel insurance that includes travelling by motorcycle in the USA/Canada/S America and I'm finding it impossible to find one that covers motorcycling and even then it's very, very expensive.

What have other people done? If you buy insurance at the borders of countries for motorcycling what does it cover? And what travel insurance can people recommend for bikes 230-650cc?

I have already looked at Nomad travel, Insure and Go, Carole Nash, MoneySupermarket.com.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Suzie

Look at post office travel insurance which did the last time I looked cover motorcycle travel, do read all the small print as policies can change and exclusions such as motorcycle as main mode of transport or bikes above 125cc can be introduced.
Motorcycle travel always has been more expensive and North America the most expensive but cover has become more difficult to find in recent years.

Thanks for the navigator travel insurance advice: it looks to be the most promising so far. I contacted the post office and they said a lot of the cover e.g. Medical and personal liability not covered if on motorbikes which is a shame.

How did it go?

Hello Guys,

Our trip is starting soon and have looked into insurance with Navigator.

Just wondering how it worked out for you both?

Our trips sounds very similar, starting in the states then on down to Central and South America.

Did you both end up taking out a policy with Navigator?

Kind Regards

Ben Owen

Suggest checking out STA Travel. They are in both US and UK. I've used them for three long rides, most recently nine months through Africa and Asia, Oct 2015 - July 2016. Prices are excellent and coverage is thorough. Have never filed a claim, so can't speak to that.

Suzie,

Are you looking for medical insurance or emergency evacuation insurance? If just the latter, I highly recommend Global Rescue. I am about a week from renewing for my third full year.

Depending on how remote you plan to go, you may also want to look into a SPOT Gen 3 or Delorme device. Each uses a satellite network (SPOT covers most of the land masses; Delorme covers 100% of the planet), so that when you go down hard, they can find you and get help to your location.

I've used each and opted for Delorme because of the two-way capabilities. The day after I activated it, I broke down in WA State 45 miles from the nearest cell service and was able to get word out to get help. With a SPOT, you have no way to know if your transmission is received.

Good luck,

John

Hi,
We are primarily looking for medical / travel insurance. We will be getting a Delorme. We are going in April and just spending the whole ear in South America now. The issue is we want to go off road to which Navigator will cover but is very expensive. What are global rescue costs like just incase we want evacuation insurance?
Thanks,
Suzie

Navigator Travel Insurance

Hi!!
Just wanted to say I’ve bought a policy from Navigator Travel Insurance today for a 7 month period riding through N America, Alaska and South America.
It’s a Long Stay Worldwide Incl North America and Caribbean policy and covers any bike size.
All for £300 which is so much cheaper than other quotes I had!!
It’s a medical and health insurance which covers me in case of injury, repatriation to the UK and medical costs whilst abroad.
Already received by email and printed off certificate of cover!!
I will take out separate bike insurance.
Just wanted to say they were really helpful and I would 100% recommend them to anyone else considering a long trip!!
Ride safe guys
Jon
