need advice on Colombia

on october 3 I start my trip down to Ushuaia on my own bike in Bogotá. I got a public liability insurance for all countries of South America except Colombia! I tried hard to get a local insurance in Colombia, but until now it was impossible. Has anybody experience with this matter?

:confused1: Peter

sura

Hi
We arrived in Columbia about 1 week ago in Cartagena.
So we needed insurence as well.

The local insurance company Sura sells it.
Sura stands for suramericana.
We paid for 2 months about 57400 pesos.

Sura is nationalwide and i saw many offices within the country.
So this should work.

Wish you a nice trip.

The insurance in Colombia is called SOAT. It is required by law and you can get it many different places like the place mentioned above, or even including some gas stations. Just ask around. The minimum policy I have seen is 3 months for about 80,000 COP IIRC, but like a the previous post mentioned, you might be able to get it for less time. The cops will sometimes ask to see it at checkpoint, but not always.

If you do get in an accident, SOAT really works, for medical bills, everything, so its good insurance.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
