wondermondo and more
Follow this link Map of world's attractions and landmarks | Wondermondo You'll find a selection of interesting places. Details are revealed by clicking on the little circles. Far from a complete list, but that is a lofty goal and who is to say what is worthy of mention.
When you are on the road, try this app, World Explorer (by AudioGuidia). The app some how queries Wikipedia and returns the top interesting places for the town or country you are in or are going to next. The free version is very useful. I upgraded to the virtual reality version, but I don't use feature much.
Here lies a key point, the traveler decides what is interesting. You can Google top 10 tourist attraction for any city or country and get a starter list. I spend countless hours reading ride reports here and on ADVrider, often following links to traveler's blogs, etc. And I took notes...
Some travelers just hit the road with little or no research. I more on the side of preparation. Don't over plan, but be informed and able to pick from a list of possibilities when the time comes. Some say they want to discover as they travel. My feeling is that it is easy to ride past something that is note worthy and poorly marked by road side signage. Or you missed the event because it happened one day before you arrived.
I spent countless hours reading blogs and travel sites. Places that I wanted to see were marked on a personal Google map, then I connected the dots as best I could. This isn't a map of my trip, because things change. Turns out I would be arriving in north western Brazil halfway to the rainy season, so I kept north through Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana, then east to the Atlantic coast of Brazil. Informed on routes and sites to visit, combined with flexibility. That's how I roll.
