help buying a bike in santiago

Hey guys.

Im going to be in Santiago in a few weeks, I just read lachys guide on getting a bike and it all seams pretty clear, toward the end he mentioned that it might be worth reaching out to people/locals in the area who know the process and can speek the lauguage. i dont think ill have any problem getting a RUT but if anyone is in the area and is willing to help with checking out some bikes and their papers id be more than willing to trade some for their time.

looking at spending 3-4000 AUD on a bike

Are you planning to take that bike out of Chile? Then you should read the posting by danielmolloy72 on the second last page on the sticky thread in this topic «How to buy a bike in Santiago»

I was planning on usuaria to prudhoe so definitely need to cross some borders. So from what I can see now as a tourist you can't buy in chile or Argentina... So the next best option is Peru?

You can certainly buy a bike in Chile - but it seems you cannot take it through any borders...

I do not know where the best place to buy a bike as a foreigner in south-America, but I hope someone else can help you with more information.

Thumbs up Bolivia

Yes you can buy and register a bike in Bolivia on a tourist visa. If you buy new its easier, but dont think its easy. But you will learn about and experience some of South Americas bureaucracy and for sure have an adventure riding in Bolivia. Enjoy. Greetings mika

Hey thanks,

So just to confirm (before I get on the bus) as a tourist I can buy and register a bike in Bolivia and then take it out of the country into other parts of South America?

Cheers

Iv looked at a few other threads and in one you mentioned a trabados or something like that (sorry about the spelling) to help with the process. Is it legal and could you recommend one in la Paz?
