Brazil, Porto Velho/Humaita to Manaus. Riding the BR319 or alternately a ferry
Hi dear adventurers,

I'm assessing if taking the BR319 is a viable option to get me from Porto Velho to Manaus on a motorbike early November. After some research it is clear that it depends on the amount of rain that has fallen in the area, or will in the upcoming days. But considering normal circumstances.

I would like to know from somebody who's already done this trip is it is safe enough for a solo rider to do so, keep in mind the risks of mechanical failure, getting stuck in the mud, the minor police presence and big wildlife like jaguars. It seems a second pair of hands is a necessity to successfully cross the BR319, and more enjoyable overall. Does someone on this forum who (un)successfully(or not) drove the BR319 in a comparable setting and would like to give some advice about this trip.

Also, as a alternative. I thinking about taking te safe option and just take a ferry. But on the internet I can't find clear info about departure dates and costs. Found several contacts on the IOverlander app but they haven't responded yet. Does someone has knowledge about the ferry trip to Manaus and willing to share this info.

All info would be much appreciated.

haven't done this trip yet...just a little information on the start of the raining season...

i am in goías...
it starts slowly this year but the rain is coming more and more...i would recommend the dry season. the red mud is like the most slippery soap you can imagine.

Duly noted, will let that idea of driving the BR319 for wat it is. Will look for a ferry.

The charts tell the story. December it gets bad and it only gets worse through February. I met a French rider who had ridden BR319 in December. He said he never dropped his bike so many times in his life.

We took the ferry to Manaus from PV, but that was in 2008.

It was before the bridge was built across the Rio To Humaitá.

Seems like riding to Humaitá and catching a ferry would be a solid plan, just from looking at google maps.

That thread describes his experience with other roads, but none near Manaus so far. BR 319 is in a different area, a different country, and a different league. It's even in a largely-different weather regime, since most of what that thread describes is outside the Amazon Basin.

I know where it is, I have been on part of that ride. The op is asking for current information,
