SOAT for Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru

Hello,

it seems the rules have changed, and I can't find reliable recent informations. Few years ago, it seems we were able to get a SOAT in Argentina that was valid for the whole continent, or at least the countries I'm interrested in.

How is it now ? Can we still get an insurrance for all these countries in one time ? I'd like to get through small border crossing and it seems that it's not possible to buy the SOAt at the border eveytime.

cheers,
jb

Can get one policy that covers Peru, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Paraguay and Chile.

No insurance required for Ecuador as it is covered by a universal scheme. Colombia is available right at the main border crossing from Ecuador.

Many border crossings have no possiblilty of purchasing insurance. Several between Chile and Argentina, at least three peru crossings (one from Bolivia and one and maybe two to Ecuador.) Couple of other crossings into Bolivia.
Bolivia supposedly doesn't require insurance if you are only staying for up to 30 days but the question of who has to accept liability isn't clear (to me at least)

February 2016 I couldn't find insurance in Peru that would cover more than Peru. When we crossed into Bolivia insurance seemed to be required, but a small donation got me the necessary entry stamp and then I got insurance in La Paz that covered all the countries that Toni mentioned including Argentina. Argentina was the only country we entered that really wanted to see a policy although when I pulled it out of my document folder, he didn't bother looking at it.

3 years ago I bought insurance in Argentina that covered all of the Mercosur countries. The company was ABC seguros
http://www.abcseguro.com.ar
The coverage and service was excellent. I think MAPFRE was the carrier. One of the biggest problems with SA insurance is the computerized form that is used by the agent. It will only accept a standard RUT ID#. To override that, the agent has to call technical assistance.
