Smile Turkey - iran - pakistan - india
Hi travelers!

Me and my mate are leaving from London to Delhi on 23rd of september, riding two Suzukis DRZ400 in 40 days (hopefully!). It will be one-way trip, once in Delhi, we will fly back to London.

We are looking for information about best routes along Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, places to sleep, great see sights and crossing borders info. Remember that because we have only 40 days to conclude the trip, we can't waste time messing around, in each country we are planing to get the best routes to see as much as we can without ending up in trouble.

Anyone is up to help?

I would take the quickest route possible to Iran then slow down and take a look at things, although by then you will be exhausted and need a day or two off.

Across Germany and down through Central Europe is the quickest way to Turkey and straight across the country through Istanbul and on to the Iran border. Depending on the length of your Iran visa if you have time take a couple of days in Esfahan and a day in Shiraz to see Persepolis.

Pakistan is a great country but I am not sure how much of it you can visit or how long your visa will be but see as much as possible including a trip up the KKH and the border closing ceremony in Lahore.

You will enter India close to Amritsar so the Golden temple is well worth a visit and I would recommend given your limited time that you head for Rajasthan and Agra. There probably won't be enough time left for much else, remember you will need rest days and a contingency for breakdowns and illness, there is a good chance either could happen.

Confirm where you will be shipping or flying your bikes from before, it might be easier in Mumbai, look at the vehicle shipping section and ask if needed.

Sorry if it's a dumb thing to ask, but why is shipping out of Mumbai easier than Delhi? Haven't shipped out of either one (out of Chennai I have) but I think Delhi is huge, and Mumbai is just humonguous... surely it can be done, but either place is gonna test your nerves for sure

I am not sure if shipping will be much cheaper than flying or if the original poster cares but I would have thought shipping will be easier from a port city, either way it will test patience and nerves for sure.

just on the same route, with similar timing.
Riding a 690.

I went through Hungary, then Romanaia (recommend to do Transfargarasan, big fun the 690), Bulgaria, then into Turkey.

Turkey more the northern area via Erzurum (can get cold during October), entering Iran in Essendere, then to Urmia for resting a couple of days at Hossein's place including bike service: it's approx. halftime there.

I will enter within the next days Pakistan, can update you later on
