Russia and Mongolia

I can only get a 30 day double entry tourist visa for Russia Will this be enough time to get me from the Kazak border, through Mongolia and on to Vladivostok?

If memory serves, the 30 days are fixed, correct?

Kazakh border to Mongolia through the Altai is about 600 miles.
Ulan-Ude to Vladivostok is about 2000 miles.

IMO you can somewhat reliably project daily mileage for those portions. I believe the Ulan-Ude/Vladivostok portion is now completely tarmac.

Mongolia is the variable. There are likely some ride reports with time/distances for the "northern route" across Mongolia. It also depends on your bike and riding style. Mongolia can be hard on a bike & rider, even harder trying to do it fast.

Lastly, be sure to budget for border crossings that go awry, and once in Vladivostok, will you be there for a few days while you sort out onward transport?

Can you get a 3 year visa? That’s the route I’m taking for 2020.

You can only get really long visas in a couple of countries.

Most Europeans don't get this. You are probably living in North America or so?

You'll want a 90 day double entry business visa. Speak to Realrussia who are quite used to this.

I am American. The 3 year was more expensive, but met my needs and allowed me to get the visa before I departed. It was pretty painless using GoToRussia.com.

Yes, but non-americans cannot get them. Almost no nationality can get that.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
