Recommendations in Argentina?

We are traveling 2-up by KLR (OK, I can hear the jokes coming already...). Currently poolside in the lovely Von Trapp lodge in Los Hornillos between Cordoba and Mendoza.

We've spent a wonderful week in Mendoza (Lujan de Cuyo to be more precise). Wondering if San Juan is worth checking out.?

Hotel prices are exceptionally expensive in San Juan. Can we get any community ideas of whether it is worth doing, or do we bypass San Juan, and go back to Mendoza -> Uspallata to stage Paso Los Libertadores, and back to Santiago and perhaps the Pacific coast for a few days?

Not much of note to see in San Juan iMO

However, if you think Argentina is expensive Chile is even more so

Libertadores is a must do

Gaaah! Now I just saw this reply. As fate would have it, I _was_ in Santiago last week!

Now I am working my way southward over the next three weeks. I need to be back in Mendoza, December 8. Currently in Pichilemu, and heading out today, toward Talca via Hualane -> Curico -> Rta 5 South.

I'm enthusiastic and willing to take recommendations. My GPS is an automobile nuvi that doesn't take tracks, so it tends to steer me away from the rolling two-lane roads that I like. I'm always fighting with it.

Thanks for the offer. I'm sorry I was too lame to look back here.

On 2/12/13 I will head north from Bariloche back to Mendoza.

is there anything along the way that the community would recommend?

FWIW, I had a great time in Villa LA Angostura and Bariloche. Superb riding!

Back in Villa LA Angostura after a magnificent day of railing twisties and trying microbrews in Bariloche.

About to cook a magnificent piece of beef with chimichurri and an organic Bonarda, finishing with Bariloche artisinal 70% chocolates.

Am I doing OK?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
