In fact, I like that region very much. Kind of melancholic landscape, similar to north-west Poland (Masuren). In summer really nice, lots of lakes, forests. Like Pottsy recommended, check out the city centre of Rostock, maybe Stralsund, Schwerin (castle). The coast from Rostock via Prerow to Stralsund is pretty, so is the peninsula of Ruegen.
