Hi guys,
We drove this road mid April. We exit Serengeti NP from Bunda (believe there is just one exit there). The road outside of the park to Mwanza is fine (tarmac with occasional pothole).
The roads inside the park are much worse (corrugation... one would think they would spend some of the money from the expensive entry tickets in doing up the road, but unfortunately that's not the case )
Try to make your way up to Lake Ndutu (take a left just before the entry sign bow over the road saying ''Welcome to Serengeti''). We saw a lot of wildlife here and this route isn't that frequently visited. From there you can make your way up to Serengeti (our come back through same way). Make sure you time it well (you can get your entry for Serengeti at the Ranger post near Lake Ndutu - just ask the local safari guides).
From Mwanza (we stayed at Tunza Lodge, quite nice!) you can take two ferries. We've been told the crossing more South is quicker / more straightforward. In Rwanda, Kigali we stayed at the parking of Okapi Hotel, nice people and ok restaurant with free wifi.
Have fun!

PS: If you want/need your windows open while driving maybe but a bucket of dung of the back of the Hilux to keep the Tsetse flies away
