5 nights in Ireland
Hi all,

A friend and myself have managed to work ourselves some availability to make a trip to Ireland in June. Time is still limited though and I am after some advice on which route to take. We realise that we cannot really do the whole west coast in the short time scale and we were thinking of 1 of 2 options, see below:

Option 1
Ferry into Belfast, counter-clockwise route to Galway, ferry out of Dublin.

Option 2
Ferry into Rosslare, clockwise route to Galway, Ferry out of Dublin.

We want to experience experience Ireland on our route, the sights, roads (tarmac only), hospitality, music, food and . Is there any particular half which is better for this than the other? Any tips on either of these options of things to see that are not really tourist traps?

5 days isnt great,but if i was you i would head to Rosslare,drive straight to Cork skip Cork City (bypass)and head into the coastal regions of west Cork then do the Peninsulas of Kerry (ring of Kerry,one full day) then Stay in Killarney,then drive up the west coast into Clare (cliffs of Moher) and link into Galway City for a Night or two,Try and aim doing Kilarney town Friday night then be in Galway for drinks on a Saturday night in terms of atmosphere and music.Mid week both towns are quiet enough. Then maybe book Holy head ferry back as theres a Motorway from Galway all the way to Dublin,if you book the ferry late then there might be time to head to Wicklow,do the SallyGap and visit Glenda-lough.

Be sure to explore Connemara (north-west from Galway).

If you're staying 2 nights in Galway, you can spend full day riding a loop in Connemara and come back to Galway.

I did 7 nights in Ireland last year. Ferry into Rosslare, over night Stop, ride accross country to Killarney, stopped four nights. From Killarney, its a great base to see all four peninsulas. Absolutely go around Kerry and in particular the gap of dunloe. Then two nights up country in Doolin. Give your self plenty of time to get back to the Dublin Ferry.

Go west young (person)
Clockwise is best so that you go north along the west coast. That ensures the best visibility when (!) it’s sunny. Buy a Michelin map and maximise use of the roads with green highlighting alongside. But, head across from Rosslare and get beyond Clonakilty before ‘touring’. Then wind your way around the coast, get as far north as comfortable cruising will allow. Zip across from Galway to the ferry out of Dublin. The best is west of Clonakilty and Galway.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
