Out of SARS-COV2 Frustration: Lofoten - Norway

Hi Everyone,

In January this year I quit my job, got myself a F850GS Adventure and sold pretty much everything that I owned.

Then SARS-COV2 hit, Switzerland got locked down, and borders worldwide closed. So me sitting at home alone, burning money while doing nothing, I developed a really bad depression.

I am 53 and have been travelling a lot in my life. I have been riding my bicycle from Europe to SEA, crossing Africa in a car, but this time I planned to do a RTW trip on 2 wheels without an end-date as long as I still could do it healthwise.

Staying at home due to the pandemic felt like prison.

At the beginning of July the situation in Switzerland improved and the borders to Finland and Norway opened up again. I decided to do a small trip to Nordkapp, using mainly TET in Finland.

I had a fantastic time - sleeping in my tent and enjoying nature helped me a lot to overcome my depression. I had the chance to test my equipment, test my endurance in the heavy rains of Finland and practice my off-road riding.

About one of the most stunning places I visited are the Lofoten islands of Norway. The landscape is fantastic, for me probably one of the top 3 places in Europe.

I made this short 10 minute clip about the islands, I hope you enjoy it and may be it will be an inspiration for your own trip.

In the meantime, stay safe - and never stop dreaming. See You on the road.

lofoten

Hi Riticulus, thanks for the very professionally done video.
One question - what filter did you use to edit out the herds of campingvans? Every time I have been there, maybe six, seven times, the roads and every available P place has been awash with tourists and their vehicles.
Few foreign tourists this year of course, but thousands of Norwegians who couldn't get to Mediterranean sun and cheap alcohol.
Safe travels
Stay Strong

Haha, Peter - you are right. Many white fridges on wheels but for some reason they tend to stay at the well known lookout points and campgrounds. A local told me that this year there where much less tourists than usual.

I had the same situation at the nordkap, clear blue sky and very few people. I also try to get up very early in the morning to avoid the crowds.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
