Magirus-Deutz F170 x Unimog shelter built up

São Paulo, Brazil
€32,000 EUR / R$ 186,000
Fire truck from Germany (1981)
Registered in the Netherlands as a camper

18,000 pounds/8200 kg
Diesel, 12 miles per gallon / 1L:5km
Permanent 4x4, rear axle differential lock
All terrain, all climates, full time living

I bought this amazing home on wheels in august 2021 from a traveling family of four and after a year traveling in Europe I shipped it to Canada in April 2022. For an amazing three years on the road in the America’s. Now I go home again but the truck is very ready for his next adventure.

The truck is now near São Paulo, ready to go for another PanAmerican journey. If you prefer I can also bring him to the harbor for you and you can ship it wherever you want.

The Deutz engine is as reliable as they are famous for. Air cooled, easy to repair and easy maintenance. I replaced the oil retainers on the rear axle (2024) I also put new seals in the brake- and clutch cilinders (2024) I put new piston rings in the air compressor (2023) and just installed new house and car batteries two months ago.

As you can see in the photo’s I rebuilt the house and made the roof 1.5ft/0.5m higher in 2023. I’ve driven with it in all terrains and conditions and he works great everywhere. Hot, cold, high altitude, through rivers (3ft water clearance), desserts, beaches, jungle, off road, very steep, you name it, I tried it, he works just fine.

Setup now includes:
35G/120L Water tank with water pump for the sink
28G/45L Water tank on the terrace for back up and shower (gravity)
69G/110L Diesel tank
75G/110L back up diesel tank (total 600+ miles range)
Very spacious living room 2.16m wide, 2.08m high, 3.15m long
Two pit stove & regular sink (HomeDepot)
Shower outside with a hose
Toilet
Diesel heater
Fridge & Freezer (Dometic CFX3 75DZ)
1 bed 4ft x 6ft / 1.2m x 2m
1 table and bench
Awesome roof terrace accessible from the house
Huge garage and guest bed, ample storage
6 solar panels, 220V - 24V charger, 200 Ah 24V gel house batteries (jan 2025)
180 Ah 24V lead acid engine batteries (jan 2025)
Starlink Kit

Mechanical
V6 8.4L Deutz diesel engine
Air cooled, no radiator, no water
Two flame starters in the air intake helping you with cold mornings
Awesome super single tires (65R22.5) with easily another 40,000+ miles on them (regroovable)
1 spare & 2 snow chains
I didn’t know anything about mechanics before and learned everything on the road. Because he is old, any mechanic in the world will know how to help you.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
