Jumbo, the -99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Build thread

Hello fellow adventurers!
This will be the build thread for my Jeep, aka Jumbo. I will try to keep the thread up to date.

Jumbo is a Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1999 with the 4.7L v8 and is manufactured in Austria. The fact that the Jeep Grand Cherokee made in Austria makes it a WG and not a WJ (sold in North America), the difference between them are minimal.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999-2004 is very underestimated as a overlanding vehicle, it has a powerful engine with a ok reliability. Solid axles front and rear (D30, D44a), good transfer-case. It has the off road capability of a Wrangler with the power of a Dodge Charger and the comfort of a couch. The only downside is the insane fuel consumption and the famous problems with cooling. The engine cooling has been taken care of with a griffin aluminium radiator.

How it all started:

A lot of things has happeneed after that photo, i bought it in 2012. Fully serviced and 200 000km on the clock. (Writing this it's 240 000km and serviced every 4000km).

What has been done to the Jeep so far (at least some of the things):
  • Aliminium radiator
  • 2.5" Lift
  • Metalpasja rear tire carrier
  • IRO HD control arms
  • Larger tires (265/75 r16)
  • Aux lighting
  • Custom electrical system
  • Extra transmission cooler.

Lighting is important during the long dark Swedish winters! (Photo taken in Czech Republic though)

Custom Electrical system

Control arms and new CV drive shaft.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
