Store the bike along the trip.

Hi.
Anyone doing a trip like I am thinking off.
I am lucky to have a job where I work for 6-8 weeks and then free the same time.

I have started to think about to start the trip and then along then way store the bike and when I am free again, fly out and continiue.
Anyone done that?
Ask a bikeshop?

Couchsurfing and Warmshowers is not an option for me because thats for a short period off "B&B".

Best regards

StefanP

Many riders do that kind of travel!!

I know 2 germans start travelling that way...Store their motorcycles in Greece in a house garage for free for one year...

In Bulgaria also there is the motosapiens motocamp that many travellers store their motorcycles...

I dont know if there is a thread here in Horizons Unlimited for places that store motorcycles!

Is a nice idea to travel the world part by part!!

I have stored my bicycle with a bike shop in Bangkok and motorbike in Cape Town so it is quite possible, you could post a question to the relevant HU community and Thorntree cycling section asking for storage when you know where you will need it.

Most MCs have room to store a motorcycle. And reaching out on HUBB or ADVRider if you have an idea about rough locations where you need storage should yield some response as well.

I stored my bicycle at a campsite in northern Morocco for a couple of weeks when I took the bus to Marrakech. The owner was happy to oblige. Other sites may well be too, assuming they have space.

I would think a warmshowers host would be receptive to the idea.. if they have space available.
And I'd also contact a local HU community with the request.

If you don't ask you'll never know. And by asking you open others upto the gift of giving.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
