Verkhniy Lars border crossing (Georgian Mililtary Highway)

I understand that some (but not all) Russian land borders are closed to tourists due to COVID.

What have people heard about the Verkhniy Lars crossing?

Thanks,

Ed

I don't think the borders are the big problem. The big problem is getting the visa.

But If someone has info on this border. I am also very interested since I am in the area.

Last time I checked all Russian (and Kazakh) land borders are closed for all foreign vehicles other than trucks carrying freight. What visa you have or don't have is irrelevant.

That's what I heard from belorassian friend. They were going some creative fake sale to friend to get bike in russian federation. However going to georgia it wasn't an issue.

I'd take ferry from odessa to batumi if I were going that way, IMO

Thanks all.

From RealRussia today -

"not all countries are open to enter Russia from.

We keep the latest information here: https://realrussia.co.uk/Info/Coronavirus-COVID19

As you can see, Georgia is not on the list, unfortunately."

Not sure if that's much help TBH but anyway!

IIRC there is or at least was a ferry from Varna as well if you don't want to go to ukraine.

I got a Russian visa in September, no problem. But IIRC you could only cross the border from Ukraine if you are a citizen or have a Russian spouse, etc. IIRC, a member here (that has a Russian wife) successfully entered Russia this summer in a land rover (or similar).

Russian Land Borders

Hi All

Im looking for some assistance or advice as I presently have my Toyota Landcruiser in Russia and I'm looking to relocate it from Russia into any EU country. I was planning to do this at the end of May 2022 and was looking at Estonia as a possible land border crossing.

Has anybody got any relevant Border information if this is possible at present??

Regards
Ray

Silke and Jan picked up a vehicle they had parked in Kazakhstan and drove it through Russia into Finland in September 2021. They might have some useful insights.

Just a heads up, due to Russias war in Ukraine, Finland has closed most of it's borders to Russia. No planes, trains or trucks are allowed in. A EU registered car with a EU driver should be fine tho.
