Insurance Central Asia

Hi David

I am living in Kyrgyzstan and can tell you about this corner here. Insurance is not jet mandatory but the law is on the move, probably from next year on required.
Some people want anyway an insurance and we have a company at our co-working space here at the compound. It is easy to establish for a requested time.

Hope this helps.
Have a save trip,
Dave

I think he asked for travel insurance and not for vehicle insurance.

And this is something where it is hard to help.

I think he means travel insurance. But anything car related will never be covered under a travel insurance. That also means a parked car where people break in, to get your camera or laptop. In that situation, a travel insurance might not cover, check for that.
Car insurance itself is done at the border usually, or in the port through your agent.

We use a more professional travel insurance that covers you worldwide for as long as you like. You pay per month. Cheap travel insurances that you pay per year only have a certain amount of days they expect you to be on holiday, so not continuous for a year for example.

Thanks for correction Klaus. I misunderstood it. Yes you were right.
I have no experience with individual travel insurance overseas. From Switzerland on its another story... :-)
What also comes to my mind is about some credit card they also have a standard travel insurance included. Probably depends on the provider.

Chears!

You need a complete travel insurance also with help when you are sick for the Russian visa anyway.

This also has to cover the transportation to your home country in case of emergency

Not for everybody. The average Dutch health insurance is already good enough. We just ask such a "Russia declaration" from our health insurance, and add it when asking a visa. This works well.
But not everybody's health insurance has good global coverage or hands out these declarations. I guess in a lot of countries it will not be common.

However, if you can pick health insurance as an option in a travel insurance for continuous travelling, then I think you have found a good travel insurance The kind that you and me are using.

And which one is that?

I would like both, some kind of Car/third party insurance that in the case I am involved in car accident, the damages are taken care of. But I assume that might be hard to come by in Stans and Mongolia. Also I would like good health insurance that if I end up in a hospital I am taken care off, or evacuated if worse comes to worse. But obviously the cost is also a factor.

Before anyone can help with the medical insurance question we will need to know your nationality, the answer will be different for every country.
Outside of the EU motor insurance can usually be bought at each border although as ZorroMoto points out about Kyrgyzstan and possibly other countries you might have to look harder to find any.

Thank you
I have EU (CZ) and Australian passport, but most likely I will be travelling on Australian passport, as that seemed to have slight advantage on some visa requirements.

Car insurance is always available at a border, or through your shipping agent when coming into a country by boat. So lets leave that out of the discussion.

Health insurance: Just check with your current health insurance, if you want to keep that, and if they give a declaration suitable for Russia, if they even cover that.

Travel insurance: Search for "long term travel insurance"
Check what they cover, and if you want, check health insurance options on that insurance. And they need to be able to provide a declaration that you are covered for Russia, to be able to ask for a Russian visa.

I have a very good health insurance from our local ( Austrian ) automobile club.

This covers Fly home service when you have an accident.
And pays for all the expenses in Hospital, Doctors and so on.

A friend of mine used it when we had an accident in 2017 in Mongolia.
Worked perfect.

And I know also some more people personally who had accidents in Mongolia and where this worked too.

costs were around 6 Euro/month ( have to contract for 1 year )

Vehicle insurance at the border !
