You could try checking with these guys

Kamchatka travel

Sounds like a pretty awesome place - if it is navigable I would be interested in thinking about riding up there from Vladivostok next year.

kamchtatka is russian iceland you know and obviously the promised land for extreme people - volkanos, hot springs, unbelivable hunting and fishing.
there are to way of getting there: from Vladik it'S BY FERRY ( ferries are regular and normal transport there) or BY LOCAL AIRLINES. from other parts of russia there are regular flights too to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the capital of the region.
the region itself is rather civilised and that's why - it our pacific military base. i mean ALL THE ISLAND. of course it's not covered all over whith marines, but all the settlments ( which are rather numerous) are in some way connected to army.
so any forigner must get a permission and, if allowed to come, a strict route.
my father served there and still lives as well as my bro-in-law. if anyone seriously interested i can ask questions, but details needed - dates, purpose and route.

Thanks.

Maybe if this idea becomes more serious with some of us, we can meet to talk about it over a one day, later in the year - at the Bikers Club or elsewhere. I will contact you in due course.

I am in Moscow right now, and come regularly (appartment close to Kuntsevskya Metro), even sometimes by bike from London, but not this visit. It is still a little too cold, although it is very nice here this week.

I got a reply from these guys and they said that you can drive from Vlad in the summer - however they didn't give any directions!

if they can show you a road to Kamchatka, I would eat my hat.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
