In Baku waiting for Ferry to Kazakhstan
We are currently in Baku / Alat trying to get our tickets for the Kazakhstan ferry. I have heard that there are two other bikers in Alat awaiting the ferry as well. If anyone else is about please drop me a text. 07538345303.

Ferry Baku-Kazakhstan
I am going to leave Barcelona with a 125cc (mid-July) to visit Tajikistan and Kyrgistan and I had been informed that, due to the Ukrainian War, the ferry from Baku to Kazakhstan is not operational, but I do not know if this is based on true and real information , so I'm trying to get a visa for Russia. Does anyone have more information about it? My intention is to reach the Georgian-Russian border at the end of August.

The AZ border is closed at land and sea, and there is no firm date to reopen it. They don't want Russian draft dodgers coming in (as happened in Georgia) and tourists coming by air generally spend more.

To head east from Georgia you will have to get a Russian visa. It's quite an easy process, and tourists who behave as guests are welcomed as guests. Just remember to take cash with you for the time you're in the country as western cards do not work in Russia. Don't forget if you're returning by the same route you'll need more than a single entry.

A workaround for this is to put your bike on a truck across the border from Georgia to AZ, fly in and then take the ferry to KZ. Getting out on your own vehicle isn't an issue.

Thanks for your info. Yes, double entrance 90 days Visa. Do you know where can I get cash -I assume in Rubles- My currency is the euro, do you think I can exchange euros for rubles in Georgia, for example?

Agreed, this has been done. I don't think it's as simple as finding a truck though, you have to take it to a freight forwarder. Costly and complex especially when you add delay/hotel and flight costs but it's certainly an option.

I don't know for sure, but I would certainly expect this to be possible.

Was there 6 weeks ago. Stayed in Tbilisi, Georgia waiting for Russia visa. Many money exchangers in town. I exchanged 100 euros for 9100 Rubles. It was enough for all fuel, 1 night 4 star hotel and food with enough left over to pay for Kazakstan 60 day insurance (they took Rubles)

Hi - we have successfully just shipped two 125cc motorbikes from Georgia to Azerbaijan. I have just uploaded a post on this experience here:

Summary: Shipped our motorbikes $175 per bike. The process was more or less straightforward but took a long time and hands-on work at customs in Baku to release the bikes. Between the power of attorney and fees at customs, paid overall $312 to ship a bike and deal with all paperwork at both ends.
