Enter Russia & Mongolia w someone else's bike

Hello
I've posted this already in the Paperwork sub forum and got some helpfull information but not conclusive. I thought that maybe here could be people with practial experience or official information on Russia & Mongolia.

Thing is I'm planing to ride my brother's bike from Europe to Russia & Mongolia this summer. The bike is registered in Spain on his name.

At the Russian Consulate in Spain they told me that is posible, need an authorization letter signed by a notary, translated to Russian and stamped with the Hague Apostille. I can do that.

The Mongol Embassy told me to contact the Customs office but could not found a contact email address.

Now, I've read some comments from for example from Walter Colebatch saying that some times Embassies don't necessary have the same criteria as the Customs Offices, that's why I'm asking if someone have experience or more detailed info about this.

thanks!

PD: I've emailed the Russian Federal Customs but no answer so far.

I entered Russia two times in 2011 on a motorbike registered with a german companys name on the paper. Both times I was asked to show documentation that I was a legal driver of the bike. When I showed my translated letter signed by a notary, there was no problems at all.

Thanks Impala, that's encouraging.

Recently I've got a response to my inquire to the Russian Customs it is in Russian so I'm not completly sure what it says but it seems to me that at least they didnt say "no possible"!.

I'm uploading it here in case a fellow member can translate it accurately.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
