Hi all,

I am now in Dushambe, coming from Ouzb and about to head to the Pamir, Kirg and then China...

I am a little concerned about a unclear story about somekind of bike registration. Now, the tourists are no longer under the obligation to register to the OVIR within 72h after arrival. However, when I passed the boarder, the guy of the custom tried to explain something about some kind of registration for the bike, should I decide to stay more than 8 days.

I tried to gather some info from the French embassy and the OVIR, and no one seems to know about it...

So in the end, did anyone came through Tadjikistan recently, stayed more than 8 days with his bike and could give the final story ?

if nobody knows so do not care.
the biggest problem could be a small hand to hand payment at the border.
be carefull in fergana valley -there've been some explosions recently.

dont worry about it. i was given only 5 days by customs when i entered and left the country 5 days later. The border guys at the Kyzyl Art pass <the border between pamir and kirgizia> dont know anything about the rule. i didnt even give them my customs document and they didnt ask for it ... i coukd have stayed longer.

the border at kyzyl art isbprimitive and the border guards not very bright. you will be fine. take your time.

This temporary vehicle registration does exist and if you're unlucky you will get done for not having it when you leave the country. I got reamed for not having it last year leaving through the corrupt border crossing near Samakand, although apparently most of the time you can just pay for it at the border when you leave (~40 som). I don't know where you are supposed to get it from. The guys on the Kyrgz border were really relaxed so I doubt you will have the same troubles there.

so in the end, at the Kyzyl-Art Pass, the custom agents which were all pretty nice guys, asked for 40 sums (~5 euros), based on somekind of official paper. I got a stamped receipt and was then sent off... all smooth. So no worry on this side.
