I am in the very early stages of planning a motorcycle trip to Mexico and Central America in '23. I am a U.K citizen ( British passport), but reside and have been a permanent U.S resident ( not citizen) for over 30 years. I hold a motorcycle, car, & CDL license.
I am planning on purchasing 2, maybe 3 motorcycles here for friends to use. They would be registered in my name and owned by me ( fully paid for, no loan).
My friends both reside outside of the US., one in U.K, the other in New Zealand ( but is a British citizen), and they both have full motorcycle licenses.
My question is regarding the requirements of taking these 'bikes, registered in my name and owned by me, to Mexico and Central America. I understand my friends will be legal to ride them in the U.S, on their own valid, or International licenses, and I can insure them, but what are the requirements on the Temporary Import Permit ( T.I.P), and insurance going into Mexico and Central America, being as they will all be in my name?
. Registering these other bikes in their names is not an option as they are not U.S residents/ Citizens - same as it is for myself when I return to U.K as I am no longer a resident there, and cannot legally purchase and register a 'bike there.
I'm sure this scenario has been addressed before. Any and all info/ advice is greatly appreciated.

I know for a fact you can have only one vehicle TVIP in Mexico. Only one vehicle in the country in your name. What you propose definitely will not work in Mexico. You can't even bring a pickup truck with a licensed motorcycle in the bed to Mexico, both vehicles in your name. Baja is the exception.

My guess is the same issue will exist in the rest of Central and South America.

You need to figure out plan B.

OP, contrary to your belief you can in fact register vehicles in your friends' names in *some* states in the USA. You may want to do a site search for the relevant thread, which runs many pages and is full of details.

You might find it's easiest to have your friends make their own purchases, since every time a vehicle changes hands there are fees and taxes to be paid. In my state, Washington, it's easy enough for a non-resident to purchase and register a vehicle, but sales tax comes due with each transfer of ownership--about 9%. There are states which have no sales tax, but the nearest example won't let non-residents register vehicles, so that's out.

Read the fine print (and don't make assumptions) and you'll do fine.

PS: It's my understanding that as a US resident I can, in fact, buy and register a vehicle in the UK. It sounds like insurance is the main issue at the moment....but maybe something's changed since Brexit.

You are correct that anyone with an address they can use can buy and register a vehicle in the UK and as you say getting insurance for non-residents does seem to be the problem although I have seen a couple of posts when people have managed it, Brexit has not changed any of this one way or the other.
