BMW airhead mechanic needed in California or Western US

My BMW R80G/S has just developed a liking for second gear only, probably due to a broken spring in the gearbox and I am looking for an experienced airhead mechanic to fix it for me. I am perfectly capable of doing it myself but with no workshop and just the standard toolkit that is not going to happen and BMW dealers are no longer interested in working on such old bikes.
Does anyone know of such a person preferably around the central California coast or anywhere near the west coast of the US?

Who did you find?

If you dig around on ADV Rider and BARF you can probably find a few independent BMW guys. Of course there are lots of shops and some dealers that could work on your older Air Head BMW.

Like in UK, some BMW dealers here won't work on old Air Heads. But still plenty of guys around who can do it. Just reach out, put the word out ... they will find you.

Shop rates in BMW dealers in California are now "around" $130 to $150 per hour.
Hopefully an independent guy would be much less.

Thanks for your reply, I did get a few recommendations on Advrider but this is a retired friend of a friend who owns a few airheads and works for ! Although I will probably do most of the work myself using his facilities.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
