Just returned from Libya
Hello
We just returned from Libya. We did the L1 and L3 route described in Chris Scott' s book. Absolut fantastic and doable easily exactly as described in the book. In the meanwhile we tried to cross directly from Idri to the lakes but the tracks taken out from the russian maps were closed. We explored for three days -one of the best experiences in my life- but we did not manage to pass so we turned west and reached Sebha.
So the Idri-Sebha route through the desert is quite easy to be done and if someone is interested I have the whole track fom the GPS.
Later some Libyans told me that they cross from Idri directly to the lakes in 9 hours through the dunes ,but may be they know exactly how to pass.
If someone has an idea of this route please let me know.
All the best

Hi all,
That's obviously too late for you but I can definitely recommend the guide we travelled with in February 07.
He's a very nice, cheerful guy with a great feel for desert navigation. He speaks some French and English.
His name is Suleiman Alrabi and he is based in Sebha-Sokara. He runs his operations as Nojoom Assharaa Tourism Services.
He can be contacted on alarbi_suleiman@yahoo.com or through his website SAHARA STARS tourism services

Hi,
I can add my recommendation of the guide Roman mentions, Suleiman of Sahara Stars. We used his services for a crossing of the Ubari Sand Sea in January (a couple of weeks before Roman) and couldn't be happier.
All the best,
Toby

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
