crossing borders in Mauritania with an old car
Hi guys,

question: I have heard that you can't cross borders from Morocco to Mauritania with an old car/ vehicle. Any leads as if this may be true?

Kenny, I think you are confusing the borders. Crossing from Mauri to Senegal is where there are likely to be problems with a vehicle older than 8 years. There shouldn't be but the crooked officials there make it an issue to extort money.
Never heard of any restrictions going from Western Sahara to Mauri. Going there myself within the week with a vehicle that is 25 years old.

Mauretana reintroduced the old rule that a car older than eight years can not be imported.

You can however travel with a car of any age.

Senegal has the same rule but it is interpreted differently depending on where you cross the border. At Rosso/Diama in the north they use it to extort money. Moussala in the east, you get a passavant in five minutes for 2500 CfA, no questions asked.

When entering Mauritania from Morocco at Guerguarat be careful with the "fixers".

Especially with this one on the video below, Artouro Mohamed.

From me he was able to make easy easy dirhams, Euros and materials I was carrying. He must have made 200+ Euros.

This was june 2018. (I learnt my lessons!)

The fixers will normally ask and get €10-20 per vehicle.

You can do it without their help, but on a busy day they may speed up the procedure.
Also, if there are any problems with your documents, such as vehicle not in your name or any bad stamps in your passport, they can help you.

Don't exchange more money at the border than you have to, the exchange rate will not be the best. When they were giving 360-380 ougiya for the euro at the border, you could get 400-410 in Nouakchott. You may need ougiya to buy gas before Nouakchott.
The alternative is bank machines in Noadibou, but that is a detour.
