Rigged diesel pump - Tanger, Morocco

Hi folks, it's my second time now - the pump (-s?) on TOTAL gas station (the first one on the motorway Tanger Med - Rabat) is clearly rigged. On 6.4. at 21.00 roughly I asked a tall and rather stocky bloke on the said pump to fill up my tank which holds 90 litres and it certainly wasn't totally empty at the time. Well, the counter stopped at 118 litres. The guy ripped me off for 345 dirhams. The pump was the first to the left of the pump for trucks. Funny thing the guy insisted I use this pump, even though I queued for another one. With typical Tanger arrogance he stated that all the pumps on his station just underwent all possible checks and that there's nothing wrong with the counter. So it must've been my head then I didn't feel like starting a row so I cut my losses and rode into the brighter future ...

Did you watch him zero the pump?

If you know for certain the tank only holds 90 litres, why didn't you stand your ground?

The money is in your hand, not his... Tell him to call the police if he doesn't like it.

Thanks for the warning and good attitude. Somewhere down the road you will save your 350ds. I was convinced I'd got similarly shafted at Yulara (Ayers Rock Resort) once. And fuel there was already pricey.

Periodic fuel scams are nothing new in Mk. I've also had dodgy dealings at this Total - but only the old 'slow to give all the change' trick - the only time in Morocco.

Now I always fill up at Ksar El Seghir, a couple of minutes out of Tan Med. Some nice 'normal' restos along that road too.
At port exit roundabout one mile west to next rb, turn right down along the sea and servo on the right after 1.5 miles.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
