From Rabat, do I have 1 month to reach Mauritania?
In Rabat, with Mauria visa in-hand.
Do I now have 1 month to reach the Mauri border?

And then, on entering Mauri, am I granted 30 days to tour within the country?

I'm new to this game.

1 month to enter, 1 month in country * not so sure anymore

English cyclist's visa (those presumed '30 days to enter') expired just couples of days ago in Noadhibou. The police at the check point on the road to NK told him that he must extend it in NK; so better check this info again.

The latest information suggests you have ONE MONTH FROM RECIEVING YOUR VISA IN RABAT TO REACH NOUAKCHOTT.

I think 'motango' might be referring to Peter Gostelow: The heat is on | Big Africa Cycle
I have been reading some of his posts.
He writes, on 14th Feb:

“This visa has expired”. The green-uniformed Police officer removed the wooden twig he’d been using to clean his teeth with and looked up at me. “It finished on February 3rd. Today is the 9th”. He spoke calmly and his English was surprisingly fluent. As he thumbed through the other pages of my passport I proceeded to question whether February 3rd was not the last day on which I could enter Mauritania and that my entry stamp to the country would give me another 30 days. The passport was handed to an older officer who was sitting on a wrought iron bed and drinking tea. He studied it upside down for half a minute and muttered something in Arabic. “You must make an extension in Nouakchott. It is 470km exactly” said the first officer. “Bon route“.

So if you are travelling slowly, or stopping off at places en route south, it doesn't leave much time to play with.

only 30 days
The two dates on the visa are from the start date which is the date of issue to 30 days after. Du 05/01/2010 Au 04/02/2010.

Extension needed
Yes, I needed to make an extension in Nouakchott - visa had already expired by 10 days - not a problem - 15 Euro for extra 30 days. I too was under the impression that 30 days on the visa was the validity of the visa and that I would get another 30 when stamped into the country. Interestingly, out of the dozens of check-posts where the passport was checked, only two officers picked up on the fact that my initial visa had expired. The first was leaving Nouadibou and the second was at the Mauri/Senegal border (I had to direct the latter to the new visa). If the first officer hadn't said something to me I probably wouldn't have got an extension in Noaukchott and may have had a problem at the border. Who knows? See you in Senegal.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
