Best border to enter morocco
A warm wellcome to everyone at HU and all the best wishes for a happy traveling 2015!

My friend and I will travel to Morocco from 06.03.2015 till 06.04.2015.
We gonna leave Europe either from Algeciras or Tarifa to set over to Morocco.

What do you suggest us as beeing the easyest way entering Morocco, via:
Tanger or Tanger Med or Ceuta?
Both motorcycles run on Swiss numberplates and have insurance coverage by the international green card.

Tanger Med is the port of choice for ease of entry. Straight out of the port and onto the motorway for onwards travel

No experience with Tangier Med, but Ceuta was the cheapest so I went with that port of entry. It was extremely easy, from ferry to Morocco border crossing was only about 3 km.

Why doesn't anyone seem to use Nador? I've used it a few times and it was always nice, quick, nothing like the circus in Tanger Med.

Granted, it's much further to the east then Tanger and there are less ferries available but being such a breeze of a border I've always found it preferable.

I used Nador many times - takes longer (which can be a benefit), costs more but quiet and quick as you say. Plus you can be in the desert within a day.

Did Tan Med both ways first time last year and must say didn't find it a circus at all.
Boats left very late both ways but in Mk quick and efficient.
€93 open return for a moto bought on the day.
Insurance is easy in Tan Med too - not managed to get it for years at Nador.
Motorway tolls to Marrakech (~7hrs) add up to €20 iirc but well worth it to get south quick.

Coming in one and out the other can work well if you want to do a full sweep.

We definitely choose Tan Med to enter and leave Morocco.
Thank you all for your info. I'm still amazed how quick I've got reaction and usefull answers on my thread. Just great!

A good start for those who are working (like me) and a clean front weel for those travelling.

Melilla (Spanish enclave next to Nador) is normally cheaper than Nador and I will be using it again in a few days from Álmeria. The cheapest crossing across the Strait of Gibraltar is normally Aciona Trasmediterranea from Algeciras to Tanger Med. Use www.aferry.to for price comparison.

I've never passed the land border between Melilla and Nador but the idea I have (maybe right maybe wrong) is that it's nightmarish.

I tend to prefer very quiet borders with only a handfull of people using it, nice and quiet, where the procedures are usually a breeze and one can talk with the officers there at length gathering information about the route ahead and sugestions about places to visit or where to stay, maybe have a coke or something (I don't drink b-eer, a disadvantage for these things but I make do with a coke or something of the sort) and, in general, just have a good time. Crowded borders are not my cup of tea.

In Morocco??

The best idea when landing in Melilla is to go and have breakfast, then a look round the old fortifications. By the time you then reach the land border the queues will have died down. That's the theory anyway.

I thought the same until I tried Tan-Med the other month.
Perhaps it was a quiet day.
I can't imagine a foreigner arriving at Dover finding things any smoother.

On a good day at TanMed you can be off the ferry and on the way in less than 10 mins, especially if you've visited Morocco before and don't need your passport composted.

Like all ports, when 3 full ferries arrive at once it can be chaos and can take forever.
