I ran through a set of 140/90x 18 and 90/90x21 on my 03 640A last year...

These tires are know for a longer service life, I think mine lasted for about 8000 KM which is above what I normally average...

Traction wise, I found them OK on the street and acceptable on loose surface roads... They don't offer the greatest traction in the mud, but that is really not what they were designed for...

Would I buy another set?, Probably not as I feel the Mitas EO7 is a comparable tire at a much lower price...

I ran a Mefo Explorer in the back of my 690 and got about 10k miles.. 16,000 km. they are basically the same mould... Might even be same factory?

Good enough traction for most places. The front is shit though. run a proper knobby if you plan to get anywhere into mud or sand.

Actually I equiped my 640 adv with the K60 for my planned trip from Ulan Bator to Magadan, but had to cancel my trip for this year. I have the experience with the R100GS, I used them for approx 10'000km, they were still good for road use. Changed them in Mongolia for a new set, had then K60 scout. The back one lasted only 5000km, mostly off road (mongolia, kazakstan, kyrgystan, Tadjikistan).

So it seems that off road they are less durable. But the R100GS was 60kg heavier as well.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
