The main problem is that the 1190 tanks themselves shed black powder. This in turn blocks the 2 filters on the 60psi booster pump (inside the left side of the fuel tank itself) -
So i would strongly advise long distance travellers with KTM 1190's to carry both kinds of fuel filters for the pump (one looks like a tea bag - the other is a circular ring filter)
Also the pump itself may pop-apart - I know - GeFr filters are now installed in my 1190 - other KTM 1190 riders be aware - check your fuel pumps before any long planned trips ! - The cause of my KTM1190 Adv suddenly stopping in middle of nowhere without warning - now confirmed, by me - was the top pressurised fuel filter/pump cap "failed" design fault of KTM, the cause - this bike i discovered, did not have the DIY "zip-tied hack" to positively hold the 2 x clamps closed and one side was seen to have obviously "popped" off , causing the pump to instantly loose pressure. so i have now Added new GeFr pump-filters ; added zip-tie to the upper pump assembly ; added 2 small self tapping screws to lock the upper pressure cap in place as a 2nd level redundancy measure ; then i primed to remove bubbles in the lines (key on , wait 10 secs ; key off ; repeat 5 times) ; bike started and ran smoothly - I also purchased a bike-wreckers pump RC8 for USD150 (great value) which you can see in the photos (same but slightly shorter fuel line) and will keep this handy as a "Known issue, Spare 1190 adventure critical part" but decided not to fit this now as the existing pump was repaired with 2 screws, 1 x zip tie, 1 new O-Ring (when i removed the pump i was astonished to see the 2nd O-Ring missing - amazingly it had not leaked - but left me wondering how this was missed at previous KTM authorised services?? Conclusion - Will do this myself in future as the over job was easy to do, do cheaply and do right.
The Fuel BP when drained and tested was found perfect - pure - KTM dealer had told me the most likely cause would be "Bad Fuel" - wrong. The Cause was the known design fault of the KTM 1190 Adv filters and pump clips.
The GeFr filters are good - they fit perfect and i would advise you carry these around on your KTM 1190 Adventure where ever you travel - i will. Thanks GeFr !
