Aftermarket pipe for 640 Adv
Any ideas on the best aftermarket pipe for a 640 Adv? I'd like to reduce weight and increase power, BUT, not at the cost of my eardrums. After a few 1000km days a really loud pipe gets me down!!!

I was hoping for something like the FMF 'Q' pipe I have on my XR,

Any ideas?

I doubt you'll get more power with out more noise.

I'd suggest a DAM as a middle of the road compromise.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. If money's no object I'd go for the full titanium system from KTM - the later versions of this are legal but you can remove the 'db-eater' from the end of the silencer.

I've tried the SXC from KTM - IMHO a slight increase in power without much of an increae in noise. My current setup is the titanium 'slip-on' silencer, with db-eater fitted (so it's not too loud), and an open airbox door with appropriate new jets. All three items came from Sommer who can advise you on what you need, as can Swampy at Marsh Performance (01752 844456).

I may return to the original airbox door and jetting if fuel consumption increases too much.

Apologies if you already know it, but be aware that changing your silencer may require a rejet and that a loud pipe might contribute to rider fatigue.

I'd definitely suggest sticking to the standard downpipes with a slightly louder can.

I have the full Ackro but it's vibrating itself to bits:

- the two pipes that exit the head actually touch each other and have created a flat/thin spot

- the carbon fibre bracket that holds the silencer has worn away to 1/2 it's original thickness.

- do you know anyone who can weld titanium?

- I'm getting my original pipes and a DAM sent to me

However, the ackro does make the best noise by far but it is very loud for hours at a time.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
