Smile HU Virginia 2017 at Appomattox Apr 27-30

Registration is now open for the 3rd HU Virginia event from Apr 27-30, 2017. Early bird rates until Sep 30.

Thanks to Michael Jordan for the group pic via drone!

Typical comments from 2016:

"I had an AMAZING time at my first HU Event. It was great meeting you all!"

"Had a fantastic time, learned so much from the presenters and attendees and made new friends that I will stay in contact with and, hopefully, ride with sooner than later."

"The food is very good. Well worth the cost, and certainly worth the time you'll save."

"We had a great time. It was my third HU meeting, the previous 2 having been in Mexico. Learnt a lot of things and met amazing people. Thanks Grant and Susan"

"What a great event HU-Virginia was. Met lots of new friends. Learned a bit about RTW travel as well as local. Was inspired by many of the presenters. It's just a great community."

"Be ready to take notes and pictures. The speakers always have a lot of great info to share and you'll see plenty of innovative ways to prepare for travelling. You'll want to remember the tips when you get ready for your next ride."

"You'll see & hear the most useful ideas on so many subjects that it boggles the mind. Presenters are attenders, so eating with the crowd does allow you to follow up and discuss the various topics...that helps as well."

Hope to see you there!

In and paid. Not 100% sure if I will be riding in from Asheville or Colorado. Registering early makes life interesting!

Hey Kurt! I just joined here, and will send you a PM when I have enough posts. How do you like these gatherings vs. RDV, Old's Cool, etc...?

Dennis, so sorry it has taken me this long to reply. These gatherings are a lot different than the RDV, etc. They are mostly seminars presented by serious overland travelers. More like school than a rally per se. Not so much a party atmosphere (but we do have our fun!).

Hope this helps and hope to see you there! (Or the one in September in Stechoah).

I have pictures now

As some of you might have noticed, I was toting a film camera while at HU VA. I have the pictures, actually I had them a couple weeks ago, but I live a chaotic live and sitting at a computer to type out things like this while the weather is nice can be a challenge.

I was on the road for about a month, all told, and will probably do a full on ride report elsewhere. But here are the pics from the event.

Chris took this one of me. Nothing can compete with the film of a manual film camera.

Not quite sunrise, but the view from the camping area was pretty nice.

WWWILLLLLSSSSONNNNN!!

I mentioned, during my packing talk, how handing a teddy bear to someone and wanting to take their picture makes anyone smile. This poor fellow disagreed, so naturally he now as a picture, holding a teddy bear, and smiling, on the internet FOR ALL TIME!

Most of the weekend was spent in classes or hobnobbering. I didn't take many pictures of that, though I suppose I could have. Anyway, it was a great time and I can't wait to see all of everyone again!

So, who's going to the HUMM?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
