HUBBUK catching a cold?

With Coronavirus cutting a swathe through the sporting / social fixtures across most of the planet I'm now trying to make some sort of sense of the way my 2020 wall planner looked at the start of January.

I know it's only mid March but the consequences of these things often stretch beyond their short term effect. For example I'm signed up to participate in two sporting events in July, one of which was called off yesterday. I'm now trying to decide whether it's worth continuing with a fairly arduous training schedule for the other one if it's also going to fold at some point.

So, any idea where we are with the Baskerville Hall meeting in June, whether it's going to happen or not, or is it still too early to say? I'd guess it depends which side of the infection curve we're on by then but I'm trying to work out whether I should be making other plans.

There is a lot of conflicting advice out there but there does seem to be a consensus that not much will be happening for several/many months so I am making no plans or bookings for the foreseeable future.

I've seen a lot of cancelations for festivals, events--shoot, even Bourbon St in New Orleans is closed. A safe bet would be not to bet on what will be be available for the near future.

HU-Virginia has been postponed until August. All of the pubs and restaurants in Michigan are shuttered. Schools and universities are closed. And I think the shit is just starting up for the U.S. All my bikes are in various stages of disassembly, so that outlet is bloicked. That leaves garage projects, Netflix and quality time with the woman who stays married to me.

The Glastonbury Festival would have been the week after HUUK down the road in Hay on Wye. It has been cancelled. All UK schools closed until further notice, most likely reopening on 01 September after the "holidays" that start mid/late July.

The way this pandemic is developing...

Alas, things in UK (and elsewhere on our long suffering planet) are not going well. Wall planner for 2020 binned. The government will probably ban large gatherings. Back to home crafts.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
