Fantastic to hear Susan, all going well my son Robert and I will be there this year and hopefully his wife Ellen will be riding in as well with us. It's marked in the calendar so fingers crossed we should make it there.

Cheers

Aussie Help Needed

I need help from someone who lives in Queensland getting duplicate papers for my motorbike. I bought my 2012 Suzuki DL 650A V-Strom from Patrick and Belinda Peck two years ago in March 2015 when they were in Santiago, Chile.

I need to get duplicate documents for this because I had an accident in Ecuador and the papers were lost. I spent over a year in hospitals there and in the US having four operations. I am now in Costa Rica, where I am living, but cannot register it here without any papers.

The only thing that I have is a photo of the Bill of Sale that Patrick and I both signed after I paid him. Unfortunately, Australia does not have an embassy here, nor next door in Panama. so I cannot go to them.

I can send you the photo of the Bill of Sale, but I really need papers so that I can register it here in Costa Rica.

Thanks for your help,
Chris Brown, motomon@pobox.com

Hi Motomon

Here is a link to the states transport website;

https://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/

I would suggest contacting them online in the first instance or ringing them directly. Australia's transport regulatory agencies can be somewhat difficult to deal with sadly.

When they sold the bike to you they should have sent the notice of disposal to Queensland Transport. This should note you as the buyer and it will note your full details (ie date of birth, full name and address, drivers licence number). If this is the case they should be able to supply you with a copy of the notice of transfer which should show the previous owners and that the registration is pending being transferred to you.

I would guarantee the embassy would be unable to assist you - we find it hard enough at the actual department.

If, and I hate to be the bearer of non inspiring new, if you can arrange a copy I am happy to collect it from the department if you arrange it with them and I will forward it to you.

The biggest issue you will face is proving who you are to them without being here.

good luck

Help Needed to Contact Patrick Peck

If anyone in Queensland or anywhere else knows how to get in contact with Patrick or Belinda Peck, I urgently need their help.

I bought their 2012 Suzuki V-Strom when they were in Santiago, Chile. I subsequently rode it around South America then had a bad accident in Eucuador. I spent a year in hospitals there and the US getting four operations.
I then returned to Ecuador, had the bike fixed and rode and shipped it to here in Costa Rica where I am now. Unfortunately, the original papers were lost, but I was able to cross borders with the photocopy of the Bill of Sale.
I now want to register it and pay the horrendous taxes here in Costa Rica. I am told that I must have original documents to do this. I contacted the Queensland, Australian authorities to get copies, but they tell me that it was never transferred to my name, nor is it even in Patrick's name. Since he bought it from another Australian, it was probably never transferred to his name.
I tried to look up his phone number, but he must have moved and could not find a number for him. I have written to him at his Horizons Unlimited contact, but have little confidence that he will see my message and respond.

Cheers,
Chris Brown

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
