Stuck in Africa with a blown engine!
Hello there,
My girlfriend and I are riding across Africa on our Honda XR600R's. Unfortunately my oil pump quit working in Cape Town and destroyed the top end of my engine.
I'm looking for somebody in South Africa with a complete engine or head/valve and rocker assembly with cam. Or some back home in the states that would sell a top end to ship here.
Have a couple inquiries out on ebay but nothing yet.

Try the Wilddogs (Motorbike forum):
Wild Dog Adventure Riding - Index
They're spread all over South Africa and are quick to support anyone in need.
Good luck!

Thanks for the response.
We linked up with Donald at Motoworx in Cape Town from on the Wilddogs forum. My bike is now a 628 and my girlfriend's bike now has a mikuni pumper carb. Donald did a fantastic job sorting my bike out before we left South Africa.
Along the way we discovered that my girlfriend's bike was burning a 1/3 more fuel than mine due to a worn emulsion tube. We couldn't find a new tube in Namibia but we found a TM40-6 mikuni pumper carb instead. Fantastic carb that we can recommend. Her stock engine feels the same or possibly faster than my "new" 628. And her bike get 1/3 better fuel economy now than mine!
Anyhow were having an amazing time and have just reached the border of Angola. We rode the entire country of Namibia off-road. It is a dual sport paradise.
If anyone wants to follow along on our adventure we are on Instagram as @2kickaround and on YouTube as the same.
Cheers!

I'm glad how this worked out for you
Yep, Southern Africa is great region for motorcycling. Lots of off-road for all levels of driving skill
It might not be what travellers expect as "true Africa" - this starts right north of the borders of SA and NAM, but it offers a wide scale of beautiful landscape, friendly people and a good infrastructure, which makes life a lot easier than, let's say, DRC during the rainy season

Membership - help keep us going!
Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
