Motorcycle transport - Istanbul back West

Hi all,

I'm aware that this might be a question for the shipping portion of forum, but that looks geared towards sea / air shipping. I'm going to be finishing a year long pan-European trip in the next few months in Istanbul.

Rather than drive the bike all the way back to London I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with shipping their bikes from Istanbul / Northern Greece / Bulgaria back to Western Europe?

Cheers,
Iain

Greece or Bulgaria are for sure easier: in Turkey your vehicle will be stamped on your passport and you will need to leave the country with it.

Once you get back into the EU, any shipping company should be able to handle it, put it on a truck.

While you're still in London, look around for signs advertising cargo services to/from Bulgaria. There are probably vans going back and forth all the time, and you could book cargo space in one heading back to the UK. Obviously you're trusting someone else with your bike, you'll just have to make peace with that.

Be sure to check the shipping section of HU for lots of info, including over a thousand shipments travellers have already done. There may not be exactly what you're looking for but loads of examples!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
