Looking for parking spot, ITALY (Rome, Napoli, Bari area)

Hello fellow riders,

I am looking for safe parking option close to Rome, Napoli or Bari cities\airports.
BMW 1200 GSA + side panniers.
From October 15th 2018 till the March or April 2019.
Safe.
Reliable.
Close to public transport to\from the airports.

Aware of airport parkings but they are way too expensive. Would rather spend my money on private individuals. However any appropriate ideas are very welcome.

Ciao and grazie,

Ruslan

Hi, nope, no replies at all. Will depart in two weeks time. Worst case scenario - will drop the bike near the airport of departure (expensive), and then return to relocate.

Ruslan:

I just went through a similar exercise finding a place to store my moto in Madrid.

You might want to call a few motorcycle dealers in Rome (or other cities you mentioned) and ask if they offer "winter storage" for motorcycles.

This is what I do when I want to store my moto in Switzerland over the winter. I pay about 45 Euros a month for winter storage in CH, that includes the dealer keeping the battery trickle-charged.

Called lots of dealers. Problem #1 - nobody speaks English. Problem #2 - there is no winter in Italy, hence no “winter storage” options. Dealerships in Italy are much smaller in size than in Germany, for instance, most of them have no underground garages.
Last time I was offered space right in the middle of showroom for 18€/day

I can understand that you won't have gotten far trying to ask in English , and it's true that there's not much reason to stop riding in winter so winter storage just isn't a thing here in Italy.

If I were you I'd start posting on local Facebook pages or forums. The biggest BMW riders forum in Italy is at www.quellidellelica.it
Plenty of friendly folk there, and I am certain you'll be offered a place in someone's garage if you ask nicely. ( It worked for me in the Lazio region a few years ago after a breakdown. )

Good luck.

Thanks, will do. Italians still prefer personal, hand-in-hand approach, from my experience. Online business is not there yet:

@@Il forum rimarrà chiuso per circa 24 ore causa cambio server""

This is what it says on the front page of the biggest BMW forum in Italy )

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
